The project aims to innovate the field of photovoltaic systems, with a focus on improving the performance of rooftop and large-scale systems through the use of advanced robotic solutions (ROBO&M). Specific objectives include automating the various stages of a PV project's lifetime, integrating design arrangements to facilitate the use of robotic systems in data acquisition and diagnostics, developing robotics for autonomous sensing and diagnostics, transmitting and exploiting collected data through a shared digital platform, and demonstrating the developed solutions through use cases and demos with stakeholders.
The possible impact of these solutions includes a significant increase in the performance of PV systems, particularly in the rooftop and large-scale market segments. With global new installed capacity on rooftops accounting for about 30 percent and the potential to reduce economic losses due to suboptimal performance, ROBO&M solutions could lead to significant savings. For example, improving performance could translate into an economic benefit of about €3 billion for the industrial and commercial sector in the EU. Similarly, for large facilities, adoption of these solutions could reduce losses and operating costs, with potential significant savings expected by 2030.
